Chemical Imbalance

2010

'Chemical Imbalance' is a romantic farce exploring the pseudo-science of inebriation!

An alcehemical aperitif, a heiroglyphic swizzle of symbols stirred in a rich, nutritive broth of rancid embalming oils and radioactive syrup.

In the Mortuary of the god's, festering deities of obsolete faiths lay dreaming drugged dreams. The oblivion of absolute internment awaits them, yet in their dying drunkenness they grow wanton and whimsical. their bodies of knowledge and of myth become disoriented, and, like ancient mantles of ice crumbling into the sea, melt into the raw ectoplasm that begets new achetypes. So it is that this divine mortuary is quite a swinging place - a kind of orgy.

This small oil painting, part of the "Illuminations" series I completed between 2008-2016 of highly detailed (what I would characterize as "medieval" or at least monkish or goliardish - as the case may be) paintings. Part of the 'Illuminations' series, this painting was displayed in Berlin, Los Angeles, and New York as well as at the Institute of Crazyology between 2012-14. Chemical Imbalance is one of 8 glowing lightpanels, originally suspended in a dark room and generating their own light to cast their likenesses over the space around them.
